Conquering Comparison Day Five

A 5- Day Study for Women Trapped by the Lie of Comparison

Have you ever felt like you just can’t measure up? The perfect Instagram pictures, the immaculate designer home, the elaborate vacations, the thriving career. Why does it seem so impossible to just keep up let alone thrive? Join me on this 5-day journey to break free from the trap of comparison, leave the social media highlight reels behind, and live the abundant life God has waiting for you.

Ladies, I hope this week has opened your eyes to the lies the enemy can trick you with. We don’t have to compare ourselves to others as we are all created for our own calling. We were created in the image of the one true God. He has given us all we need to be exactly who He has called us to be.  Keep focusing on whose you are and what He is calling you to do.

In today’s world, it is so easy to constantly struggle with comparison. Think about how media plays a role in your life and how that fuels your struggle. From Pinterest-perfect homes, to elaborate vacations being shared on Facebook, to worrying about how Instagram-worthy a picture and outfit is, to worrying about how many followers you have; we are constantly bombarded with the idea that we don’t have enough. Seeing how much someone else has or is doing makes us think we are not good enough and we can never just be content.

If you feel like you are comparing yourself with someone figure out the reason why. Do you want to do or accomplish what they have? Are you interested in learning more about what they know? There is nothing wrong with wanting to know more and wanting to do more. Just make sure your intention in wanting more is to glorify God. Go to God and ask him for wisdom, guidance, and support to figure out what that means for your life. Is this something you should be doing or is this a journey that wasn’t meant for you and you need to find what your journey with God has in store? Maybe you need to take a step back from all the media and focus on your reality. Take time to focus on what and to who you can be grateful. Focus on the relationships you have with others in real life, not on social media.

Instead of comparing yourself to others build relationships with them. Seek mentorship from a trusted believer. Ask others about their journey and how they got to where they are. Then if it lines up with God’s calling for you to take action. Stop comparing your starting place to others’ finished race. Seek out others in your life you can be an encouragement and mentor. Just as you are comparing yourself to others they are comparing themselves to you. Break the cycle and instead pray for them, with them, love them, and encourage them. You are not in competition with others. Titus 2:3-5 tells us just that, “In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered.” (CSB)

Sis, God has placed you exactly where you are in your life for His perfect reason. Trust Him. Pour into those relationships and create those mentorships. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says,  “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing. (CSB). Let’s start encouraging instead of comparing. We can accomplish so much more when we are living in our God-ordained calling and working together with those he has placed in our lives.

Let’s Pray

Dear God,

Thank you so much for the encouragement of your Word. Father, I pray that you would remind us to always come to you first with everything in prayer. That we would always remember to ask you for guidance in all that we do. Help us to keep our intentions focused on doing what you have called us to do and to bring you all the glory. God, I pray that we would remember you have created us to use our gifts and to work together as a community of believers encouraging and mentoring each other not comparing ourselves. I pray that you would give us the confidence to boldly step out and obey you and live a life that stands out to the rest of the world as only you can do for us. We thank you for always being there for us even when we get caught up in our struggles with comparison and we pray that we would see the enemy’s tactics before we allow ourselves to get caught up in them. Lord, help us to continue to conquer comparison.

In Jesus’ Holy name, Amen.
