Conquering Comparison Day Two
A 5- Day Study for Women Trapped by the Lie of Comparison
Have you ever felt like you just can’t measure up? The perfect Instagram pictures, the immaculate designer home, the elaborate vacations, the thriving career. Why does it seem so impossible to just keep up let alone thrive? Join me on this 5-day journey to break free from the trap of comparison, leave the social media highlight reels behind, and live the abundant life God has waiting for you.
When we feel ourselves allowing comparison to make us feel less than or defeated we need to remember that we were not meant to be just like others. We were perfectly created to be individuals. Romans 12: 4-8 “Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, in the same way, we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith; if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness” (CSB). We all have our own individual gifts and talents. We should be leaning into our differences and discovering exactly how God wants us to use them for his purposes. We were never meant to be like others so we shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to others. Instead, we should celebrate those differences and see the value in them. We as the church are a team and we all have different positions to play that bring value to the team as a whole.
Not only were we created on purpose for a purpose as individuals we were created in the image of God himself! Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.” (CSB) Let that sink in for just a minute! Ladies we were created in the likeness of the almighty God how could we allow ourselves to be compared to other people and feel bad about who we are?
The creator of all things picked out every aspect of who you are and put you together perfectly according to his purpose that he has curated just for you! We were customed designed by God, Psalm 139:13-14 “For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well” (CSB). Not only were we created in the likeness of God he was also perfectly designed from the very beginning knowing exactly what purpose he made us for. If we were created by God in His image, for His purpose, created perfectly in His time and for His purposes how can we allow the enemy to convince us we are not as good as others or we can’t do something as well as others? We need to stay immersed in God’s truths about who we are, how we were created, and why whose we are means more than what we may feel on our down days.
Sis, stop envying the gifts and talents of others. Instead spend time with God getting to know what your gifts and talents are. Find out how you can be successful and joyful in your everyday life by understanding what you have to offer. Soak in God’s truths about who He created you to be. Conquer comparison by owning who you are because of whose you are!
Let’s Pray
Dear God,
We come to you today to thank you for creating us as individuals. Lord, we are so blessed by a creative and loving God. Not only do you care and love us enough to make us in your image but you even blessed us with our own gifts and talents. Father remind us that you have made us special and unique on purpose for your purpose. Help us to learn what those gifts and talents mean for our lives and how we can use them to serve you. Remind us to not let the enemy trick us into believing we need to be like others. Lord, we know we only need to be focused on becoming more like you. We love you and praise you.
In Jesus Holy Name,
Amen
