Letting Go Of Worry- Week One

“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 CSB

I am naturally a worrier. That is part of why being a planner with all the lists and things mapped out brings my brain peace. I feel like if I can plan out all scenarios both good and bad it gives me a (false) sense of control. I worry about everything from little things like how we are going to get our to-do list done each day to my family’s safety, about my kids’ future, if we are financially secure, are we are making the right decisions, about every little thing. Even with those plans and lists, I’ve created for comfort that little sense of peace is incredibly short-lived. Worry creeps back in and holds every thought captive.

As I started researching worry and what the Bible says about it, I began to feel convicted. Getting caught up in worry is the exact opposite of having faith. When we are worrying, we are essentially doubting God’s plan and his ability to care for us. Something that seems so normal to us is detrimental to our relationship with God. As I began to dive into scripture and prayer, I started to realize my worry is a sin and I needed to repent and ask forgiveness.

When we allow our minds to wonder and worry about what could be we place ourselves in a constant state of fear which ends up stopping us from operating out of active faith. That lack of active faith leads to disobedience. Worry truly takes us down a devastating path that can weaken our faith and place us in a vicious cycle full of fear, anxiety, and even depression. One of my favorite reminders about worry is a quote, “When we worry you assume responsibility for things you were never intended to handle.” (unknown).

When we look at today’s verse from Romans 8:28 we see that God is a good God who loves us unconditionally. Everything, good or bad, no matter how scary or how impossible, will end up working out for our good because as believers we are those who are called according to His purpose. We should be taking every worry, every fear, and every question to God and relinquishing it all to Him. We should be entrusting everything to God. Having faith is saying we know who God is and we believe He is who He says He is, and He will do what He says He will do. If you ever have doubts read His word and see where he has proven he is a faithful God over and over throughout the scriptures. I can even look back on my own life and see every time I have surrendered my worry to the Lord, he has always been faithful he has always worked out everything for the good.

Romans 8:31 says, “What, then, are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?” (CSB). Sis, I am here to tell you God is for us! Stop letting fear and worry take your focus from the living God who is always working things out for us even when we don’t see it, yet.

Let’s Pray

Dear God,

We come to you today asking for your forgiveness. Father, please forgive us when we allow small worries to build up and distract us from who you are. Remind us to always bring every worry to you and lay it at your feet before we start trying to do the impossible and fix it on our own. I pray Lord that you would help each woman reading this today to fully entrust themselves in you. Thank you for being such a patient and loving God that is always there for us regardless of our shortcomings. Continue to guide us as we grow in absolute and unwavering faith in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
